Prashasthi is a concept based brass band concert and it is a known legend throughout Sri Lankan schools. ACSBB was the first school band ever to organize a show at the BMICH in 2001.
History
The Ananda College Senior Brass Band referred to as ACSBB, began in 1991 with just a handful of dedicated students who were musically inclined and a few instruments belonging to the category of Brass and Percussion. In 1994 ACSBB matured to be accepted at a national level. Its first performance at national level took place in September that year. This was a memorable year for ACSBB due to various reasons. Apart from being nationally accepted, the band received their first costume as well as new Brass instruments. There it began a journey of rapid development over the years to become a well known name among the Brass Bands.
ACSBB was officially invited to welcome His Royal Highness Prince Charles in 1998 when he visited Sri Lanka for the 50th Independence Day Celebration.
As a team, ACSBB created history at Ananda by being the first and only non cadet band to win the Brass Band Championship Trophy twice in the 1997 and 1999. They have also won various other competitions including the competition organized by the Navy Band of Sri Lanka in 2003.
Being a definite trend setter, ACSBB introduced Sri Lankan audience to Prashasthi, a well known concert held annually which provides many opportunities to students from various parts of the country to realize their artistic capabilities. Prashasthi introduced the local audience to the world of visual stimulation extensively used at concerts today. ACSBB was one of the pioneers of fusion music in Sri Lanka.
Apart from being trend setter, the team consists of a group of well trained and dedicated students who are committed to achieve the best both academically and in extracurricular activities. Success through commitment is an integral part of the team philosophy. Students have excelled in their fields once leaving the school with the experience gathered from their time in the band. The leading household brand in the field of modern music in Sri Lanka, Bathiya Jayakody as well as the youngest conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Sri Lanka is a product of ACSBB.
What is special about Prashasthi?
Prashasthi is a concept based inter school indoor brass band fiesta and it is a known legend throughout Sri Lankan schools. The latest technology & equipment for the music industry is brought down and combined with the traditional artistry bringing out a unique creation when merged with mind blowing music.
The Senior Brass Band of Ananda College was the first school band ever to organize a show in such magnitude at the BMICH in 2001.
This is the 11th consecutive year it is being organized.
It is totally organized by the members of the Brass Band, a total of less than 50 students.
Prashasthi has turned out to be a very strong brand among the schools especially in the Colombo district up to a level that it no longer needs to be referred alongside Ananda College to be recognized.
